WINNING WEEK

The flowers of May blossomed early for all Town supporters with two fine away wins within the first week. On May 1st we headed up to UCD in a Leinster Senior Cup Fourth Round clash. Most agreed that UCD had provided our stiffest challenge in the first round of the league and despite changes on both sides, an other tough game was envisaged. De Town's small but vocal travelling support were silenced when the hosts went one up . However, we were giving as good as we got and in the second half, all changed when man of the match Jackson Ryan netted twice to give us a well deserved win on the road and restore some confidence at the same time. UCD did manage to smash the ball off the crossbar in the dying moments but an other late, late goal conceded would have been too much. The sound of relief was as loud as the almighty thump of the crossbar. We can look forward to beating Shelbourne in the quarter finals.

Then it was a long haul drive down south to Cobh on Saturday night May 5th. A surprising large crowd of the usual loyal Town supporters made the trip and were made feel welcome at St Colman's Park. Despite various problems in the Cork harbour set up, they certainly made us work hard for our three points. Sam Vernon's coolly taken strike was enough to earn us the victory and his little dance routine was straight out of Strictly Come Dancing. By car, it meant leaving Longford at 2pm and returning at 2.30am. Yet, some of those incredible supporters intend making the exact same trip this Tuesday for the EA Sports Cup clash back at the same venue, same opposition. If the result is the same, then the miles won't feel as long. It's a bit of a pity that some of those who booked the Section O bus failed to turn up. Unfortunately, it's not a new problem.

WEXFORD AWAY

This Friday night, we're back on the road again. After two trips to Cork, now it'll be Wexford. While they may be a few points behind us, we know it's going to be an other tough encounter if we're to maintain our winning away streak. But with all the other title contenders winning last weekend, it's vital that we don't slip up down in the sometimes, sunny south east. Despite our hard earned three points in Cobh, we still remain 2 points behind Finn Harps on Saturday night. It's far from half time in the league yet but each game is vital in this ultra competitive season. Fingers crossed.

INSTANT CELEBRATIONS

The times, they have a changed already. There was a large group of Town supporters attending a wedding in Poland while the game was being played in Cobh. But thanks to our media manager James Donnelly's instant updates being flashed around the world on social media, word reached the anxious wedding group in a twinkling of the smart phone. As the party goers danced around an outdoor fire and sang Stand Up If You're Longford Town (well, the same line non stop), their song and dance routine was also flashed round the world. It was uploaded onto our own social media platforms for all to enjoy.

SUNNY CAR BOOT SALE

It's not every Bank Holiday that's promised as sunny as this May Monday but hopefully the spell of good weather waved a magic wand over our car boot sale too. These lines are written before the car boot sale kick off but hopefully all goes well.

50/50 RESULT

Heartiest congratulations to Kitty Conway, c/o Andy Dardis who was last week's winner of the €200 on offer. If you're not in, you can't win and although the prize fund is slightly smaller than the lottery, your chances of winning are far greater. And you'll be supporting sport, locally.
