Supporters’ Club Notes (01/08/16)

A GOAL AND A POINT

The weekend game against Galway Utd was billed as a must win game as the struggle to catch Wexford continued. But with Wexford taking all three priceless points away to Finn Harps the previous night, our task on Saturday night became even greater. Hopes soared when the hard working Kaleem Simon found the back of the Galway net with a fine strike. But all the hard work, energy and passion was negated when the visitors equalised through a defensive lapse to leave it all square at one a piece and just one point as well. The polite clapping at the end of the game summed it all up. Yes, we have been playing better of late, yes, there is a greater urgency and commitment but we still only took two points from our last two home games. And then Wexford beat Harps to increase the gap between automatic relegation and the play offs. It's going to be tough, very tough. Climbing Croagh Patrick barefoot comes to mind. Very tough, but possible.

ROVERS AWAY

This Friday night we head to Tallaght Stadium to face the hoops of Shamrock Rovers with an 8pm kick off. Rovers are currently sitting in fourth place with a couple of games in hand. They'll be expecting an easy ride up there but if we can continue our fighting spirit and keep our concentration, then anything is possible. This game marks the end of phase two and the following week, we head back to Wexford for the start of the final phase and to where we had our only win this season.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH / JULY

Congratulations to Kaleem Simon who is our deserved player of the month for July. Apart from his first goal of the season last Saturday night, Kaleem continues to improve and grow in confidence. He always works his socks off and is certainly a worthy July winner of the player of the month. Kaleem will be presented with his trophy before the next home game which looks like Monday August 15th when we play St Pats. This is to be confirmed.

CUP GAME

The FAI made the draw for the next round of the Cup at their big meeting down in Clonmel (a hotbed of soccer, seemingly or close to Waterford) and we've been given a home draw against second placed Cork City. The game has to be played the week ending Sunday, August 21st which will probably mean we'll play them on Saturday, August 20th. Now, if the game should end in a draw, we then will have to travel south for a replay on the Tuesday 23rd before, wait for it....play them again in the league on Friday 26th August. So, it's possibly three games within a week against the same opposition. The only solution is we'll have to beat them at home to avoid huge travel expenses.

CAR BOOT SALE

Once again, the weather was kind to us for the August Bank Holiday Car Boot Sale. There was also a summer camp on the pitch which made for some difficulties due to the huge crowd. And once again a massive thank you to all the old faithful souls for their continued hard work, support and dedication.
