Section O Says Hello (06/08/14)

Shake it up baby now!!

Allo everybody from the other side of the ground! Things are going quite well aren’t they? Too well you could almost say! Given that these notes were basically set up as a platform to rant as much as we want, it is becoming increasing difficult to have such rants with things going so well on the pitch! The team are clearly in fantastic form and as we slowly pick up each win under our belt it is becoming increasingly difficult not to start to ponder about the “P” word.  After the hurt and even embarrassment in terms of last season some Town fans felt, it is with great restraint that we are trying our best not to get too excited but thankfully I suppose we’re not the ones in charge of this. Despite the amazing run we are currently on, I think it’s fair to say that our performance has slightly dropped in the last few games. For large parts of the last 3 games against Wexford, Waterford and Rovers B on Friday night we barely looked like we were leaving 3^rd gear. Having said that the old overused cliché that the sign of champions is winning the games where you’re not playing well does have some truth to it but it is still vital that the lads pick up the performances for one last push starting with tonight as the lads from Ballybofey arrive down no doubt intent on kicking us up and down the pitch! To give credit to Harps, they are currently on a 6 match unbeaten run and to go further back have only lost once in their last 12 thanks to Glen O’Connor’s wonder strike for us up in Ballybofey at the start of June! They have always been our bogey team and would love nothing better than to put an end to our run as they strive to make a promotion spot! Let’s hope the lads as in previous weeks can keep focused and get the job done! MON DE TOWN! 

Away Days

The decision during the off season to include a Shamrock Rovers B team into the First Division was met with some distain from many League of Ireland fans. Did it undermine the credibility of the league? Who would want to go out to see their team play a B team? Well this attitude was nowhere to be seen on Friday night as Town brought their biggest travelling support of the season to Tallaght to watch us collect 3 points and remain 6 points clear. In just over a fortnight we are due another trip up to Tallaght this time to take on the proper Rovers Team in the Fai Cup which will hopefully see us bring an even bigger crowd. These notes have always made little of our involvement in cup competitions in preference of the league but we must admit, we’re a little excited about this one! Fantasy Premier League 2014

After the success of last year’s competition the Supporter’s club in conjunction with Section O are running their own Fantasy Football league. Entry is once again €10 with cash prizes for first, second and third place as well as some bonus prizes throughout the year. To enter text 0877619299 or contact any member of the Supporters Club committee. There will be a stand set up at next week’s game against Finn Harps giving out details of the competition and also collecting entry fees. The deadline for paying your entry fee will be the 1st of September. We are also hoping to get some of the players involved this year so if you’re interested in testing your fantasy management skills against some of the team then get in touch!

Chant of the Week

If you were as obsessed with the World Cup as we were you’re probably familiar with the song “'Brasil decime que se siente' made famous by the huge travelling Argentinian support in Brazil this summer. The song is to the tune of Credence Clearwater Revival's Bad Moon Rising and roughly translated is basically an all-out onslaught on the Brazilian national team and their fans taking in the Argentinian’s victory over their neighbours in Italia 90 and boasting that their beloved Maradonna is better than the Brazilian hero Pele. As the song is probably the most catchy chant heard in a long time, we here at Section O couldn’t help but putting our own slant on it…enjoy!
