Underage Awards at City Calling Stadium

Mon Jul 14th 2014

There was a big turnout at the presentation of underage awards at City Calling Stadium following the SSE Airtricity League game against Shelbourne recently.

It was fantastic to see so many talented young local men decked out in the red and black. There was a buzz of anticipation in the Clubhouse as the Senior players arrived in following their impressive performance against the Dublin team which resulted in them going top of the SSE Airtricity league for the first time this season.

LTFC Club Chairman Jim Hanley addressed the group and thanked all the underage coaches, managers and staff for their tremendous work in the last couple of years. The underage structures at the club are now well established and there is an increased number of talented youngsters availing of the top class coaching provided by the Club for boys under 15 to under 19. It is also worth noting that the Gaynor Cup girls under 14 team who represented Longford this year also received awards at half time during this game.

The Club Chairman also spoke on the progress of the new development at City Calling Stadium. The new pitch and training pitch are now in place and seeded and will be ready for action in 2015. However there is still a long way to go and the continued support of the local community is crucial in order to complete the development.

In concluding his address Jim thanked all the players and their parents. They all showed great commitment throughout the season and represented Longford Town to the best of their ability at all times.

Longford Town Senior Manager Tony Cousins presented the awards. The deserving winners were as follows:

Under 17

Player of the Year: Conor Dillon

Most Improved Player of the Year: Aaron Nally

Under 18

Player of the Year: Peter Hanley

Most Improved Player of the Year: Francis Molloy

Under 19

Player of the Year: Lee Higgins

Most Improved Player of the Year: Damien McGarry

Congratulations and well done to all the award winners. The good news for all these players is that the new season for underage starts in a couple of weeks so trials have already taken place for all age groups with over 250 attending!

The future is looking bright. Regular updates on the progress of the teams in their respective leagues will be available in local media and the LTFC website. Good luck to all involved!
