SUPPORT THE SUPPORTERS’ CLUB
With the start of the 2016 season almost upon us, we’d appeal to as many as possible to join the Supporters’ Club. Why? Because we support De Town both on and off the pitch and over the years, we have made a massive financial contribution to the running of the club.
Last season, Longford Town were playing from what was possibly the smallest and poorest base in the entire league and yet we managed a magnificent placing in the league. This season, expect the bigger clubs like Sligo and Derry to move up a gear or two. It’s going to be another tough and demanding battle and that’s why we’d like to see many more join our ranks in supporting the club.
After many long years of fundraising, the Supporters Club now have a superbly comfortable and friendly Clubhouse. But we could do with one or two more volunteers behind the counter to improve service, especially at half time.
Our Car Boot Sales have grown from strength to strength but as we’ve been saying for years, they don’t happen by magic. There’s a lot of work involved by a few workers who would dearly love to see some more help. Give Liam Healion a shout, he’s waiting patiently for your call.
The Lotto continues to grow but again, Andy could do with even a couple of more helpers which would make a huge difference. One hour over a weekend?
But if you can’t afford the time, we’d love if you could just join the Supporters’ Club. Membership costs €10 for an adult and just €5 for under 16s. Years ago, the fee was double that. When you join you get a reduction on merchandise, you can win €100 by forecasting the standings in the 2016 league table, you will have a chance to present the Player of the Month award, you will also have a chance to sponsor a player for the season and as well as all that we’re waiting on some local businesses to sign up for further rewards.
Still interested? All you have to do is pick up an application envelope in the Clubhouse and return it completed as soon as possible. It’s a win – win situation but as they say, if you’re not in, you can’t win.

ANOTHER PRE-SEASON WIN
Saturday afternoon was the unusual time for kick off when Athlone Town were the visitors to the CCS for our latest pre season work outs. Alan Mathews was the familiar face leading out Athlone in an unfamiliar strip (their proper strip arrived at half time but they opted to keep their same shirts on). Although we sported our familiar red and black strip, it wasn’t the one we’ll be wearing throughout the season. The new is promised to arrive shortly.
A youthful Athlone side started brightly but as the game wore on, the gulf in class became more evident and the “local” Town ran out comfortable winners on a 3-1 scoreline. Proper match reports are available elsewhere.
On this Tuesday 23rd February , we entertain fellow Premier team Galway to the CCS with a 7.45 kick off time. Galway lost to Shels last week and will be keen to get back to winning ways against us, even if it is only a pre season game. They were able to save their home pitch and played the Dubliners in Fahy’s Field. Our next pre season after Galway will be away to Waterford. So far, in the eyes of this scribbler, our best opposition to date in the friendlies has been Limerick who since we played them have added further strength to their squad.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congrats to one of our legendary supporters, Padraig Connolly who has become a grandfather to one very precious grandchild recently. When next you see Padraig, you’ll notice the extra large smile on his face !!
CONDOLENCES
We’d like to extend our sincere condolences to Peter Vocella (Luigi’s) on the recent sad death of his mother in Italy. May she rest in peace. Peter has had a long and strong connection with the club for many seasons now.
