FAI Primary Schools 5-A-Side Longford 2016

Sun Apr 17th 2016

FAIFAI-SCHOOLS1

The SPAR sponsored FAI schools 5 a side primary schools competition took place at City Calling Stadium last week. Once again this year this competition proved to be extremely popular with primary school children. In all 392 boys and 232 girls from primary schools in every corner of county Longford took part in the competition.

Local organiser Carmel Browne (Melview N.S.) commented:

“The task of organising the event efficiently and effectively is a mammoth one. It could not have happened without the help of a group of dedicated referees from the region”

The girls section was played on day one and 29 teams from 18 schools took to the field. The standard of play was exceptionally high and most games were decided by the odd goal. After successfully negotiating the group stages –in which teams played 3 competitive games, Kenagh and Fermoyle emerged to face each other in the A Cup section (for smaller schools). 2016 is the first year that this section has been available in the girls competition. Both sides showed excellent touches throughout the final, however it was the superior strength of the Kenagh girls and their ability to convert chances created that enabled them to emerge victorious. The girls from St. Dominic’s N.S., Kenagh will now go on to represent Longford in the North Leinster finals in the girl’s A cup on April 21st in Navan.

Longford Town FC announce the departure of U19 manager Mark Connors

Thu Feb 4th 2016

Mark Connors – I have stepped down due to work and other commitments

“I will be assisting the new manager in the transitional period. Obviously it has been a very difficult decision and hasn’t been an overnight thing, but when I can’t give something 100%, I don’t think it’s fair on the players or the club to pretend I can or I will. I would like to thank all the U19 staff that worked with me, particularly Derek who has been tremendous for me, without whom I could never have even had the chance to work at such a great club. All the staff, coaching, admin and committee within the club who work tirelessly everyday and seldom get recognition, who made my life easier. Every player that we worked with in our time for their effort and respect. And finally Tony Cousins, who gave me the opportunity at such a young age, trusted me, supported me and taught me more about the game in three years than I learnt in my thirteen years previous. I wish the new manager the very best of luck and look forward to working with him in the interim. When I came in I was told it was a ‘family’ club, I can assure people it’s even more than that!”

First team Manager, Tony Cousins said:

“I’d just like to thank Mark for his service to the club. When I appointed Mark to the role of U19 manager it was with the view to improving the standard of player coming through and ensuring that these players would be good enough to train with and progress into the senior squad. That has happened last season and this season we are seeing the results of Mark’s efforts in that area. I wish Mark success in his future roles.”

Longford Town FC wish to express the gratitude of everybody at the club to Mark for his professionalism and dedication to his role and wish him every success in his new venture. Mark will be staying on for a short period to assist the new U19 manager settle in. We are pleased to announce that Wayne Groves is the new U19 manager. Wayne has spent thirteen years coaching at St. Kevin’s Boys FC and has also coached teams for the DDSL. The club look forward to the start of Wayne’s career with De Town and welcome him to the City Calling Stadium.

Club Statement on our new kit manufacturers Legea

Fri Jan 29th 2016

Longford Town FC are delighted to announce they have entered into a new sponsorship agreement with Legea for the supply of their football playing kit for the 2016 season.

Longford Town FC had originally entered into an agreement with Macron Ireland to supply their kit requirements for the 2016 and 2017 Seasons and had launched their new home jersey for the 2016 season in December 2015 but unfortunately, through no fault of Longford Town, it has became evident that Macron Ireland were not in a position to deliver on this new agreement.

The club recognise that a number of their supporters have purchased new home replica jerseys from the Longford Town FC shop before Christmas and the club are prepared to offer to exchange the Macron 2016 season replica home jersey for a new Legea 2016 season replica home jersey for any supporters who would wish to exchange theirs. The new Legea jerseys will be available for exchange at the clubs shop in City Calling Stadium at the first home league match against St. Patrick’s Athletic on the 12th March 2016.

While Longford Town FC regret the inconvenience that this may have caused to their supporters, unfortunately this situation was totally outside the clubs control and the club are sure that their supporters will fully understand this.
