Longford Town 1-2 Bray Wanderers

Sun Sep 15th 2019

Bray Wanderers defeated nine men Longford 2-1 tonight at the City Calling Stadium.

A goal from John Martin and a penalty from Dean Williams in the 88th minute saw Gary Cronin’s side steal it in Longford after a defiant Town team held out with 10 men before Shane Elworthy fouled in the box for Bray’s winner.

Longford took the lead through Dean Byrne on 10 minutes when he pounced on a loose ball in the box from Luka Lovic and slotted it by Hayden in the Bray goal.

Karl Chambers was harshly sent off for a second yellow 25 minutes in and that gave Longford an uphill battle. The seagulls got their equalizer right before half time taking advantage of the extra man, John Martin finished up a well worked move when he tapped in from close range.

Bray dominated possession in large parts of the second half but Longford held strong and could have taken the lead through Jack Doherty and Dean Byrne.

Bray finally got their winner n 88 minutes when Shane Elworthy was deemed to have pushed a Bray man in the penalty area. Anto Breslin was sent off in the aftermath and Dean Williams converted the spot kick to give Bray all three points.

Match Report by James Donnelly (Full report on sseairtricityleague.ie)

Longford Town ran riot in the El Clasico as they put five past Athlone at the Athlone Town Stadium on Friday night.

Three first-half goals from Aodh Dervin, Anto Breslin and Sean Boyd had the visitors in firm control with the home side threatening little apart from the odd chance from Shane Dunne.

Town started as they meant to go on with Dervin scoring from long range after just two minutes of play.

They made it two after 15 when Anto Breslin marched through one on one to put it past Myles, and loanee Sean Boyd got his second goal in as many games for the club on 22 minutes when Dylan Grimes played him in after a huge lapse in the Athlone defence.

The remaining 10 minutes of the second half saw Longford get their fourth through Peter Hopkins.

Athlone got a consolation through Kealan Dillon but Longford hit straight back from the penalty spot from Sam Verdon to make it 5-1 to the Red and Black.

MATCH PICTURES: Longford Town 4-0 Galway United

Whatever Neale Fenn said at half time following a scoreless first half certainly worked, as De Town netted 4 times without reply in the second period. Goals from Dean Byrne (x2), Sean Boyd and Joe Manley sent the De Town crowd home happy.

A few more pics from our 4-0 win v Galway.

Before and after the game at City Calling Stadium.

And where would we be without our mighty supporters and hard working volunteers…some travelled from the UK and would you believe another made the long journey from Russia. C’mon De Town!!
