Meet a Longford Town supporter all the way from Tromso!

Mon Jul 23rd 2018

A fantastic story from the brilliant Humans of Longford Facebook page. Was a pleasure to have Benjamin Halvorsen and his guardians, all the way from Tromsø in Norway. We hope Benjamin had a memorable experience in the City Calling Stadium and welcome him back anytime! #cmondetown 🔴⚫

……” it has been my dream for 4 years to be in Longford and now my dream has come true……

……for about 4 years I have been interested in Longford Town ever since finding them on FIFA & Soccer Manager….I even liked the nickname De Town……

…so since then, I have been a Longford man on line and keeping up to date……my dream since then was to come and see it all in reality for myself ……up in Tromso a few of my friends also follow Longford now……

…with my guardians I came over from Tromso, Norway for the week end…..

…Tromso is in northern Norway, above the Arctic circle…from November /December we see no sun at all and then in summer we have the sun 24/7….in winter we have plenty of snow which usually lasts till May….but we can have snow in June…..

…the Northern Lights are visible in Tromso….they’re really spectacular…..

…….the game here in Longford tonight is very interesting but the second half was much better than the first half…..

…I also visited Stamford Bridge to see my other team , Chelsea…. but here in Longford everything is close up and personal….much nicer and friendlier…… after the game I met all the players and the manager and they signed my jersey…..very personal and friendly….great experience…..

….yes, I watched the World Cup…it was both boring and interesting…seeing the big teams like Germany and Spain go home early made it very interesting….I was happy that Croatia did so well…..

….well, I used to play football but I had to make choice between it and chess….and actually, chess won…..

…in my rating group I’m first in Norway……so far, I’ve played in tournaments all over Norway and also Sweden,UK, Spain, Greece, Russia and Bangkok, Thailand….so yes, I do love to travel……

….being a chess player is like being a football manager….you analyse opponents, create plans, organise your pieces and look several moves ahead…..

…..my future ? ….at the moment I’m concentrating on finishing High School……maybe a football manager but….we’ll see…..

….before you go, can I thank my guardians for making this dream trip to Longford become a reality…..dreams can come true..

…and c’mon de Town !! ……”

Special guests from Bavaria at the City Calling Stadium

Sun Jul 22nd 2018

Meet Timo Siersch and Robert Schuster. That’s Timo on the right. The lads travelled from Bavaria, Germany to watch De Town defeat Wexford 3-0.

Robert first saw De Town play in the UEFA cup game in Liechtenstein, many, many seasons ago and so tonight was just his second time seeing De Town in action.

The lads are known as Ground Hoppers and Robert has clocked up an impressive 650 stadiums (or stadia ) in a staggering 80 countries .

Over the years, he has visited Croke Park and the Aviva but it’s the smaller and older clubs, he prefers. Finn Park rates highly for being old and the Drogs home, because it was his first. As far as he can recall, he has been to all the clubs in Dublin as well as Bray , Drogheda and Dundalk on the east coast.
Cork and Athlone have also hosted the lads.

So how do we compare with the famous international stadia……”for real football and real football lovers, the small clubs are simply the best….the supporters come out for the love of the game and their team….the smaller clubs are definitely the best”

And we at De Town agree with that.

Safe onward travels lads and thanks for calling to the City Calling Stadium…c’mon de Town !!

(Keep an eye on the Humans of Longford page where a young lad from Norway has been following De Town on line for years but tonight realised his dream when he attended his first LTFC game)
