Longford Town progressed comfortably into the next round of the EA Sports Cup tonight, with a 2-0 away win against Shelbourne. The away side opened the scoring on 39 minutes with a well-taken header from Gavin Boyne off a cross from Karl Chambers. Town extended their lead on 75 minutes, with a low, powerful effort from Dylan McGlade which sneaked through the unfortunate Shelbourne keeper’s legs after Shels failed to clear McGlade’s own corner. Town’s unbeaten run stretches to 4 games ahead of the long trip to Cobh Ramblers next Saturday in the league.
Our opponents in the next round of the EA Sports Cup include:
Waterford, Cork City, Dundalk, St. Patrick’s Athletic, Sligo Rovers, Shamrock Rovers or Galway United
